Cliff Booth’s Next Act: Quentin Tarantino’s New Novel Arrives as David Fincher Directs the Sequel
Tarantino’s second novelization will accompany the Brad Pitt sequel and publish before the film’s Netflix debut, HarperCollins said.
- On Tuesday, Oscar-winning filmmaker Quentin Tarantino announced his novelization "The Adventures of Cliff Booth" arrives December 8, while director David Fincher helms the sequel "The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth" starring Brad Pitt.
- Tarantino decided against directing the sequel because he long expressed a desire to retire after making 10 movies. Having completed nine, he did not want a sequel to be his final project, seeking "uncharted territory" instead.
- Both the novel and film take place in Hollywood in 1977, eight years after the original story. The plot follows the stuntman as a bartender and cinema projectionist while performing occasional "clandestine services" for friends.
- Netflix spent $200 million to produce the sequel, which lands in Imax theaters on November 25 before its Netflix debut on December 23. HarperCollins publishes the novel on December 8.
- The original 2019 feature earned $377 million at the worldwide box office against a $90 million budget. It garnered 10 Oscar nominations, establishing a significant commercial and critical benchmark for the upcoming spinoff.
