Off-Duty Detective, Deputy Pull Driver From Burning Truck Moments Before It Explodes
The driver was hospitalized with leg burns after the vehicle exploded, officials said.
On Thursday, Sept. 15, Kansas City Police Department Detective Jason Findley and Clay County Deputy Chase Blatt rescued a driver from a burning Ford F-150 on Interstate 35 near the Interstate 435 interchange in Claycomo.
Detective Findley spotted the burning vehicle while driving south on the Interstate after his shift and exited his patrol SUV to assist, joined by Deputy Blatt who had also stopped to help.
Video shows the officers pulling the disoriented driver to safety just before the truck exploded, preventing a potentially fatal outcome as the vehicle was consumed by fire.
Emergency responders transported the driver to a nearby hospital for treatment of burns to his legs, while The Clay County Sheriff said, "Without the intervention of Detective Findley and Deputy Blatt, it could have been much worse."
The Clay County Sheriff released footage of the rescue on Wednesday, with reporter Sam Hartle at the Scripps News Group documenting the incident in Kansas City, Missouri.
