Clark wins 2nd US Open title. Yamashita takes LPGA event in playoff
Clark became the first wire-to-wire U.S. Open winner since 2014, while Yamashita earned her third LPGA Tour victory in a playoff.
On Sunday, Wyndham Clark captured his second U.S. Open title at Shinnecock Hills, finishing at 4-under 276 to hold off Sam Burns by one shot.
Clark entered the final round six shots ahead, but his lead dwindled to one stroke as the gallery supported Scottie Scheffler's bid for a career Grand Slam.
Separately, Miyu Yamashita won the Meijer LPGA Classic on Sunday in a playoff against Lottie Woad, shooting an 8-under 64 to reach 17-under 271 at Blythefield Country Club.
Yamashita birdied the 18th hole in regulation and the playoff to clinch her third LPGA Tour victory, while Woad missed a 3-foot par putt and a 10-foot comebacker.
The major KPMG Women's PGA Championship begins Thursday at Hazeltine in Minnesota, marking the next significant event on the professional golf calendar.
