‘Can't Gag Parliament or Ignore Youth’: CJP's Saurav Das Slams Disallowing of Questions on NEET Protests in Lok Sabha
CJP leaders said the blocked questions sought refunds, paper-leak answers and basic amenities for protesters, and accused the government of shielding the executive.
During the recently concluded Lok Sabha session, authorities disallowed three sets of questions from Matheswaran regarding NEET-UG 2026 protests. Saurav Das criticized the decision on Sunday, alleging the move shields the executive from public scrutiny.
The CJP-led protests began in June over NEET-UG examination irregularities and paper leaks, intensifying at Jantar Mantar. Demonstrators demanded accountability regarding alleged police force and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Matheswaran sought information on refunding NEET-UG 2026 application fees, student welfare, and denial of drinking water to protesters. His inquiries, filed under Notice Reference Nos 101799 and 101801, also addressed public distrust and government engagement.
Citing Rule 41, parliamentary authorities rejected the inquiries, a move Das characterized as relying on "bizarre justifications" to avoid accountability. He argued blocking MPs undermines Parliament's role, reducing it to a "rubber stamp" for executive decision-making.
Question Hour exists precisely because ministers must answer to elected representatives, Das emphasized, warning that when democratic institutions refuse to address public grievances, citizens are forced to return to the streets.
