City of Revelstoke issues wildfire evacuation order for 5 rural properties near Beaton
Officials ordered people in the evacuation zone to leave immediately as the BC Wildfire Service monitors wildfire conditions and no expansion has been announced.
On Saturday, the City of Revelstoke issued an evacuation order for Fish River Road and Incomappleux River Forest Service Road near Beaton due to wildfire activity affecting properties in Columbia Shuswap Regional District Electoral Area B.
The Johnson Creek fire has been burning in hard-to-access terrain near Beaton and Upper Arrow Lake since July 21, prompting the order on advice of the Wildfire Service to protect residents.
People within the evacuation order area must leave immediately, taking emergency kits, medications, and important documents. The order remains limited to properties on official maps, with no expansion currently announced.
Those affected should "Contact Emergency Support Services at 814-9547 for access to support services;" Officials also advise to "Lock your home" and "Tell your emergency contacts where you are going" before departing.
Emergency officials continue to monitor the situation and remain in contact with the Wildfire Service regarding wildfire conditions and potential impacts. Residents can direct questions to emergency@revelstoke.ca or 250-805-2015 for updates.
