Heat-related mortality in Spanish cities increased by 95.4% between 2015 and 2024 compared to the decade 1991-2000 and Castellón de la Plana leads this growth with an increase of 563.5%, going from 25.7 deaths per million inhabitants in the decade 1991-2000 to 168.1 between 2015 and 2024. Heat deaths in Spain have skyrocketed 95.4% on average between the end of the 20th century and 2024, according to an international report published by ‘The Lancet’. In the case of Catalonia, all its provincial capitals have increased by more than 100% the number of deaths for this reason. Valencian Community, Balearic Islands and the two castillas also appear with similar increases.
