Chunghwa Telecom Co., one of the major telecom service providers in Taiwan, has joined a consortium of companies to build a new intra-Asia undersea cable system, which is scheduled for completion in 2029.
A consortium of 9 companies, including Microsoft, AWS and Singtel, will build a submarine cable with an extension of 8,900 kilometers that will connect east Asia. Chunghwa Telecom targets AI cloud network needs with new submarine cable
Chunghwa Telecom (CHT), Taiwan's largest integrated telecommunications operator, announced last month it would invest more than NT$2.4 billion (approx. US$81.6 million) in the new Asia United Gateway (AUG) East submarine cable system. On July 16, CHT participated in the signing ceremony for the new AUG East cable in Singapore, where it shared construction details for the new cable.
