Christopher Nolan brings ‘The Odyssey’ to CinemaCon
- On Wednesday, director Christopher Nolan debuted an extended IMAX-only clip of "The Odyssey" at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, showcasing his technical achievement of shooting the entire film on IMAX cameras.
- Based on Homer's epic, the film chronicles Odysseus, king of Ithaca's perilous 10-year journey home. Nolan joked the massive ensemble cast, including Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, and Tom Holland, was so large it would have collapsed the stage.
- Describing the project as a story that has fascinated generation after generation for 3,000 years, Nolan utilized new, quieter IMAX cameras. The footage showcased the Trojan Horse's arrival during the nighttime infiltration of Troy.
- NBCUniversal Entertainment Chairman Donna Langley reaffirmed the studio's theatrical commitment, stating, "We've always been a theatrical first studio." Universal has moved toward a 45-day exclusive window for its biggest movies.
- "The Odyssey" is set for a July 17 theatrical release, serving as Nolan's follow-up to his blockbuster "Oppenheimer." Anticipation has surged with IMAX 70mm opening-day tickets selling out a year in advance.
