Christoph Waltz, Jeff Bridges, more join 'Minions & Monsters'
The new Minions spinoff honors cinema and comedians, featuring an all-star cast and continuing a franchise that has grossed $5.6 billion worldwide, Universal said.
- On July 1, 2026, Universal and Illumination announced Minions & Monsters will hit theaters featuring Allison Janney, Christoph Waltz and Jeff Bridges in the all-star cast.
- Created 15 years ago, the Minions franchise has helped Illumination and Despicable Me earn more than $5.6 billion worldwide, with Despicable Me 4 earning $972 million and Minions: The Rise of Gru almost $1 billion.
- Set in 1920s Hollywood, the film follows the Minions seeking the lead of their monster movie, described as 'rambunctious, ridiculous and totally true' in their rise, fall, and rescue.
- The creative team includes Pierre Coffin, director and co-writer, who also voices the Minions since 2010, Brian Lynch, co-writer and executive producer, and producers Chris Meledandri and Bill Ryan.
- Notably, Trey Parker, South Park co-creator and voice of Balthazar Bratt in Despicable Me 3, joins Saturday Night Live alum Bobby Moynihan and Phil LaMarr in the voice cast.
