Christian Yelich’s 2-Run Double Rallies NL Central Champion Brewers to 5-4 Win over Pirates
Yelich’s two-run double erased a one-run deficit as Milwaukee improved to 95-57 and kept pace for home-field advantage.
On Wednesday, Christian Yelich's two-run double in the seventh inning lifted the NL Central champion Milwaukee Brewers to a 5-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park.
The Milwaukee Brewers entered the contest one day after clinching their fourth consecutive National League Central division title, allowing manager Pat Murphy to deploy his regular lineup.
Pittsburgh took a temporary 4-3 lead in the sixth inning when Rafael Flores Jr. homered off relief pitcher JoJo Romero, following earlier home runs by Oneil Cruz and Brandon Lowe.
After Milwaukee loaded the bases in the seventh against pitcher Carmen Mlodzinski, Yelich drove in the go-ahead runs with a double down the left-field line to reclaim the lead.
Pitchers Antonio Senzatela and Trevor Megill preserved the victory, with Senzatela earning the win and Megill recording his 28th save before Milwaukee travels to Baltimore for a game Friday.
