'Haven't seen anything like it,' witness says on Pike's failed execution
Tennessee officials were unable to put Christa Gail Pike to death Wednesday for a 1995 murder, media witnesses said, after the lethal injection was halted for hours as courts considered a last-minute appeal of what would have been the state’s first execution of a woman in at least 200 years.
The woman - who had been on death row for more than 30 years - survived two lethal injections. She had been sentenced to this maximum sentence since 1996, after a brutal murder of a colleague when she was 18 years old.
