Chipotle hikes same-store sales forecast as diners return for burrito bowls
Traffic improved about 1% in Q2 as Chipotle’s rewards relaunch lifted sign-ups and helped the chain raise its same-store sales outlook, the company said.
On Wednesday, Chipotle Mexican Grill reported second-quarter 2026 earnings after the market close, with Wall Street analysts forecasting earnings of $0.32 per share and revenue of $3.33 billion.
Last quarter, the chain posted a 0.5% increase in same-store sales, surprising Wall Street after traffic had previously dipped as value-conscious diners cut visits amid economic pressures.
The company opened its first restaurant in San Pedro Garza Garcia, Mexico, on July 16, 2026, as part of a strategy to diversify revenue streams beyond the U.S. market and bolster growth.
Wall Street projected same-store sales growth of 1.4% for the quarter despite spiking gas prices and consumer budget pressures, while management previously described the company's outlook as "conservative."
Investors weigh recent traffic trends against competitive pressures as Chipotle shares have fallen more than 7% this year, dragging market value to roughly $44 billion and prompting close monitoring of momentum signals.
