Chinese national charged with unlawfully photographing Whiteman Air Force Base

Qilin Wu, 35, faces charges for capturing 18 unauthorized photos and videos of Whiteman Air Force Base's B-2 Spirit aircraft, violating U.S. law, authorities said.

  • On Wednesday, the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Western District of Missouri announced that Qilin Wu, 35-year-old Chinese national, was charged with one count of taking photographs of Whiteman Air Force Base and military equipment without authorization.
  • On December 2, 2025, Whiteman Air Force patrolmen found a minivan with Massachusetts license plates at the base perimeter, and Wu said he was there to look at the B-2 Spirit.
  • Responding patrolmen said Wu showed them his phone and admitted taking videos of the B-2 Spirit aircraft and photos of perimeter fencing, a gate, and military equipment, with 18 photos and videos recovered.
  • Due to a lack of detention space, Wu was released pending immigration proceedings scheduled for Feb. 9, 2027, and on Dec. 3, 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested him again, releasing him on his own recognizance.
  • Wu is identified in filings as a Chinese citizen who entered the United States illegally on June 22, 2023 near Nogales, Arizona, and was released pending removal proceedings scheduled for Feb. 9, 2027.
