Chinese Robot Maker Unitree Prices Shanghai IPO

The listing would give investors a rare public valuation for a leading humanoid robot maker as demand and trade-policy risks remain uncertain.

  • On Thursday, Unitree Robotics priced shares at around $22 on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, seeking to raise about $900 million in a deal valuing the Hangzhou-based robot maker at roughly $9 billion.
  • Unitree shipped more humanoid robots than any other manufacturer last year, with products ranging from less than $5,000 to more than $150,000 spanning industrial, educational and consumer markets.
  • Analysts at CLSA forecast the global humanoid market reaching $69 billion by 2030, while Morgan Stanley projects it could exceed $5 trillion by 2050, with robots operating in varied environments through "embodied AI."
  • Beijing threatened retaliation against the United States, accusing Washington of "overstretching the concept of national security" after the Federal Communications Commission announced plans to ban new Chinese-made humanoid robots.
  • Although revenue rose 68% from a year earlier, Unitree warned that intensifying competition and softer demand slowed growth, with profit falling 55% and the large commercial market for robots remaining uncertain.
