A city official first spotted prefab huts erected at the castle ruins around October 2022 and demanded their removal, but the couple refused to comply, according to police.

On the 20th, the Fukuoka Prefectural Police arrested Chinese company executive Liu Xiaoqing (41) and her husband Li Yong (42), both from Tobitake, Umi Town, Fukuoka Prefecture, on suspicion of real estate theft for allegedly developing private land in the mountains of Dazaifu City, Fukuoka Prefecture without permission and setting up a campsite.
