China’s Wang Yi in South Korea for talks amid Trump push to revive North Korea diplomacy

- President Lee Jae Myung's Liberation Day address proposing multiparty dialogue to formally end the 1950-53 Korean War prompted the talks, as Beijing reiterated its commitment to playing a constructive role in regional stability.
- Requesting China's cooperation in denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula, Cho urged Beijing to help resume dialogue with Pyongyang. Wang said North Korea and the United States must decide on a summit, while emphasizing the US must change its "long-standing hostile policy."
- Both ministers agreed to accelerate the second phase of South Korea-China Free Trade Agreement negotiations and reviewed preparations for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation summit scheduled for November in Shenzhen, China.
