China’s DeepSeek Annualised Revenue Hits $1 Billion, The Information Reports

- On Thursday, Chinese AI startup DeepSeek reached an annualized revenue run rate of $1 billion, more than double its pace from a few months ago, according to The Information.
- Growth followed significant price increases for DeepSeek's models, which rose by 2.3 to 4.5 times, as CEO Liang Wenfeng reported that customer demand remained steady despite higher costs.
- Most revenue comes from developers paying to use DeepSeek's API, as the firm allocates over 70 percent of computing capacity to training new models and reserves 30 percent for inference.
- Preparing for a potential IPO on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, the company has hired CITIC Securities and aims to raise 50 billion yuan by October-end, though timing and valuation remain undecided.
- The company is finalizing a $7.5 billion funding round valuing the startup at approximately $74 billion, following an earlier $7 billion round in June where Liang provided a large share of the cash.
