China to Complete New-Generation Mars Geologic Map by the End of 2028
The map will use Tianwen-1 data and AI to create the world’s first intelligent Martian atlas and a Chinese geologic time scale.

- The project's deliverables include a 1:5 million-scale geological map, 1:50,000-scale landing zone maps, and thematic atlases, providing a template for future mapping of the Moon, Venus, and asteroids.
- Integrating Zhurong rover findings on ancient water history—a vast ocean 3.5 billion years ago and floods 1.6 billion years ago—will fill evidence gaps and help promote China's new time-scale system internationally, Hou Zengqian, chief scientist for the Tianwen-3 Mars sample-return mission, stated.
