China Urges France to 'Halt' Fast-Fashion Law, Warns of Countermeasures

- Commerce ministry spokeswoman Huang Ling stated China is in "firm opposition" to the policy, arguing it uses sustainability standards to apply double standards and potentially breaches World Trade Organization rules.
- Huang warned that if France persists, China will take "necessary measures to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises," adding that France would bear full responsibility for consequences.
- France designed the legislation to reduce the fashion industry's environmental footprint and protect its domestic clothing sector from low-cost products sold by companies including AliExpress.
