- Doval and Wang described the discussions as "candid and in-depth," agreeing to seek a "fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable settlement" of the border issue.
- Prior to border talks, Chinese Vice President Han Zheng urged both nations to handle their relationship from a "strategic and long-term perspective" and properly manage differences.
