China Hits Japan with Anti-Dumping Measures on Chip Chemical
Importers must post deposits of up to 99.2% after Beijing said dumping of the semiconductor chemical harmed China’s domestic industry.
- Starting today, Sept 8, China's Commerce Ministry requires importers of Japanese dichlorosilane to provide cash deposits of up to 99.2 per cent, citing alleged harm to its domestic semiconductor industry.
- Beijing and Tokyo have been embroiled in a diplomatic feud since November 2025, when Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi suggested Japan could deploy its military if China attempts to seize Taiwan, a self-ruled democracy claimed by Beijing.
- Deposit rates were set at 80.8 per cent for Denal Silane and 99.2 per cent for Shin-Etsu Chemical, affecting imports that reached $2.6 million, or about 33 per cent of China's total dichlorosilane supply in July.
- Chinese officials launched the preliminary anti-dumping investigation in January, with previous retaliation including warnings to travelers to avoid Japan and tightened export controls on key materials.
- Ahead of planned diplomatic meetings, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's expected visit this September coincides with Chinese leader Jinping's planned Sept 24 meeting with President Donald Trump at the White House.
