Arrested back from the capital 61-year-old Liu Jianchao, considered among the most authoritative candidates as the next leader of Chinese diplomacy. According to experts he may have paid for personal activism or too close to Washington. Since 2022 he had traveled to more than 20 countries and met officials from over 160 countries.
Liu Jianchao had returned from a work trip when he was arrested for interrogation and his home was searched for. Reasons for the detention of the diplomat are still unknown.
