China Seeks to 'Strengthen Cooperation' at Trade Talks with US
STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN, JUL 23 – Third round of high-level talks aims to extend tariff pause and ease trade tensions as China boosts rare earth magnet exports to the US by 660%, officials said.
- China's Vice Premier He Lifeng will travel to Stockholm from July 27 to 30 for trade negotiations with the United States.
- The talks follow earlier escalating tit-for-tat tariffs between the two countries and previous meetings in Geneva and London to reduce tensions.
- Chinese spokesman Guo Jiakun said the talks aim to enhance consensus, reduce misunderstandings, and promote stable, mutually beneficial relations.
- The temporary tariff de-escalation agreed in May is set to expire next month, with officials eyeing an extension past the August 12 deadline, according to U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
- The outcome could affect trade dynamics, as ongoing negotiations remain crucial to easing tensions and preventing tariff increases between the world's two largest economies.
