Chile’s Economic Activity Posts Biggest Monthly Drop Since 2022
Chile’s economy contracted much more than expected in July as deadly rainstorms temporarily halted some mining operations, according to the central bank’s main monthly gauge of activity.

The Central Bank reported that the activity suffered a contraction of 1.5% in the seventh month of the year, in the lowest part of the projections.
The data was placed in the most pessimistic part of market expectations.
The Central Bank reported that the Monthly Economic Activity Index (Imacec) of July 2026 fell 1.5% compared to the same month of the previous year. Previously, in June, the activity had managed to grow 2.4% after five consecutive months of seasonalized deterioration.
