Child hit and killed by school bus in Rockland County, police say
On Wednesday, a 7-year-old girl named Blima Weber died after being struck by a Yeshiva school bus at the intersection of Blauvelt Road and Manor Drive in Monsey, New York.
This tragedy follows an 8-year-old Charlotte Herzberg's death last month in a separate traffic incident, renewing pedestrian safety concerns in the densely populated Rockland County neighborhood.
Ramapo Police Department officers, Rockland Hatzalah paramedics, and members of Chaverim rushed to the scene shortly after 9 a.m.; despite extensive lifesaving efforts, the child was pronounced dead on site.
The Ramapo Police crash investigation unit is examining the collision's circumstances, with authorities reporting the 28-year-old bus driver is cooperating and no criminality is suspected.
Ramapo Police distributed 98 safety flyers last week encouraging residents to use designated crosswalks, part of ongoing efforts that included over 16,000 traffic citations issued last year.
