Chiefs Reach Super Rugby Final in Crusaders Humiliation
The Chiefs scored six first-half tries and stayed unbeaten in their last four playoff meetings with the Crusaders.
On Friday, the Chiefs defeated the reigning champion Crusaders 49-12 at Waikato Stadium in Hamilton, securing a spot in their fourth consecutive Super Rugby Pacific final.
Seeking their first title since 2013, the Chiefs dominated the team that defeated them in the 2023 and 2025 finals, establishing an early, insurmountable lead.
Winger Kyren Taumoefolau scored two early tries, and Damian McKenzie converted six first-half tries to build a 42-5 lead. "It's extremely satisfying," McKenzie said after his 150th match.
Despite a second-half try from captain David Havili, the Crusaders failed to close the gap after losing Leicester Fainga'anuku to injury; Chiefs winger Liam Coombes-Fabling was sin-binned.
The Chiefs now await the winner of the second semi-final between the Hurricanes and Blues, which takes place in Wellington on Saturday, to determine next weekend's final venue.
