Quero, Montgomery and Benintendi Hit HRs, White Sox Beat Tigers 7-1 without Murakami
Edgar Quero, Colson Montgomery and Andrew Benintendi homered as Chicago won for the fourth straight game and moved four games above .500.
On Saturday, the Chicago White Sox defeated the Detroit Tigers 7-1 at Rate Field, despite losing star slugger Munetaka Murakami to the injured list with a hamstring strain.
White Sox starter Anthony Kay improved to 5-1 after allowing one run in five innings, while Tigers pitcher Framber Valdez surrendered four runs over 6 2/3 innings on a sun-splashed afternoon.
Edgar Quero, Colson Montgomery, and Andrew Benintendi each homered, powering the offense before 29,435 fans despite Murakami's absence. Montgomery's blast was his 14th of the season.
Detroit has lost 20 of its last 24 games and dropped eight consecutive series, falling to 15 games under.500 for the first time since August 2023.
Seeking a series sweep, the White Sox face the Tigers on Sunday with Chicago right-hander Sean Burke opposing Detroit right-hander Keider Montero at 2:10 p.m.
