Cubs Extend Winning Streak to 10 with Triumph over Rangers
Ian Happ extended his on-base streak to 29 games as Chicago held Texas to two hits and matched a club feat last reached in 1935.
The Chicago Cubs defeated the Texas Rangers 7-1 on Friday night, clinching their second 10-game winning streak of the season as Ian Happ extended his on-base streak to 29 games.
This marks the first time in nine decades the Cubs have achieved two 10-game winning streaks in one season; the franchise previously accomplished this feat in 1935 and during their 2016 World Series championship run.
Pitcher Javier Assad earned the win, allowing one hit over 3 2/3 scoreless innings, while Seiya Suzuki hit his seventh homer and Michael Busch added a three-run double in the seventh.
Manager Craig Counsell described the performance as a "recipe for a lot of wins," while Chicago second baseman Nico Hoerner said the historic milestone is "obviously a good sign" for the club.
Edward Cabrera starts for the Cubs against Jack Leiter of the Rangers on Saturday night, with Chicago holding a 27-12 record after winning 20 of their last 23 games.
