Chicago Bears Reopen Search for Stadium Location, Including Northwest Indiana
The Bears will evaluate sites across Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana after Illinois lawmakers stalled tax and infrastructure support for a $2 billion stadium project, CEO Kevin Warren said.
- On Wednesday, the Chicago Bears announced they will broaden their stadium search beyond Arlington Heights, Cook County, to include Northwest Indiana, team President and CEO Kevin Warren said.
- After stalled talks with Springfield lawmakers, Warren said, `We have been told directly by State leadership, our project will not be a priority in 2026`, despite seeking property tax certainty and state assistance for roads and utilities.
- The Bears previously paid $197 million for the 326-acre former Arlington International Racetrack site in 2023, and the Arlington Heights location requires an $855 million infrastructure estimate.
- With lease terms in place, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker's office called the Bears' move talk a slap in the face as the Soldier Field lease includes yearly rent about $7 million and an $84 million early-exit penalty.
- The Chicago Bears have pledged to invest more than $2 billion and Warren said he wants to break ground by Dec. 31, as the Northwest Indiana Professional Sports Development Commission courts the team.
