CHICAGO-AREA, JUL 24 – Eleven World War II veterans and Glenbard West students traveled to learn about wartime experiences and honor service, supported by the Gary Sinise Foundation.
- Glenbard West High School students and World War II veterans embarked on a trip from Chicago to the National World War II Museum in New Orleans, courtesy of the Gary Sinise Foundation.
- The initiative served to connect young learners with veterans, aiming to honor veterans' service and sacrifice, and to provide a special history lesson for high school students.
- Among the veterans making the trip, 98-year-old Charles Brooking served on a PT boat in the South Pacific.
- Traveling together, the students and veterans, the group stayed in New Orleans for a couple of days and will return to Chicago on Friday.
- The National World War II Museum continues to aim to ensure all generations understand the price of freedom, following its designation by Congress in 2000.
