6 Takeaways From Chicago Sky’s Season-Opening Win in Portland, Including a Standout Night From Kamilla Cardoso
Cardoso added 14 rebounds as Chicago built a 50-37 halftime lead and held off Portland’s late rally in the expansion team’s debut.
On Saturday night, Kamilla Cardoso led the Chicago Sky to a 98-83 victory over the expansion Portland Fire, recording 22 points and 14 rebounds at the Moda Center.
The Portland Fire's opener marked the league's return to the city for the first time in 24 years, with Carla Leite scoring 18 points for the expansion team at the Moda Center.
Sweeping roster changes followed the Sky's 10-24 finish last season, including trading Angel Reese to Atlanta for first-round draft picks in 2027 and 2028; Skylar Diggins added 21 points and 11 rebounds.
Trailing by 17 points in the first half, the Fire rallied to tie the game at 70 with a 3-pointer from Bridget Carleton, but the Sky pulled away late.
The Sky continue their road trip against Golden State on Wednesday night, while the Fire host New York on Tuesday as their season-opening homestand continues.
