Tragedy Strikes As Senior Officer Martyred in Chhattisgarh IED Blast
- Konta Division's Additional Superintendent of Police, Akash Rao Giripunje, lost his life on Monday when an improvised explosive device detonated during a foot patrol near Dondra village in Sukma district.
- The patrol was conducted to secure the area ahead of a nationwide strike scheduled for Tuesday, which was organized by the outlawed Communist Party of India , who are suspected of planting the explosive device.
- Giripunje’s team was investigating a crusher plant torched by Maoists when the pressure-activated IED detonated, injuring other officers who were treated locally and being shifted for better care.
- The leader of Chhattisgarh’s government strongly denounced the blast as a cowardly act, highlighted that over 400 suspected Maoists were eliminated in the Bastar region during 2024-25, and assured that the fallen officer’s sacrifice would be honored and not forgotten.
- The incident highlights ongoing challenges from Maoist insurgents using landmines and IEDs in difficult terrain, underscoring calls for Naxalites to surrender and join rehabilitation programs.
