3 People Shot in Parking Lot of Uno Pizzeria on Widener University's Campus in Chester, Pennsylvania, Police Say
Police said a woman and two men were wounded, and investigators have not released a motive or any arrests.
Three people were shot in the parking lot of an Uno Pizzeria on the Widener University campus in Chester, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday night, with officers arriving around 11 p.m. to find the victims suffering gunshot wounds.
About 30 young people had gathered in the 1500 block of Providence Street to celebrate high school graduations when at least three shooters arrived and fired approximately 40 shots into the crowd.
Victims included a 17-year-old boy, an 18-year-old man, and a 19-year-old woman transported to Christiana Hospital and Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. Witness Hanief Tillery reported, "Within the next 15 minutes, I heard about 7-8 gunshots."
Chester Mayor Stefan Roots condemned the violence, stating police are reviewing security footage from nearby businesses to identify suspects. Police Commissioner Katrina Blackwell said the incident "impacts far more than those directly involved; it diminishes the quality of life for everyone."
Investigators are examining whether the shooting relates to recent retaliation among teenagers. Chester continues its "Safe Summer" program, which provides youth with summer camps and activities designed to curb gun violence and keep neighborhoods safe.
