Cheryl Reeve Breaks WNBA Record for Coaching Wins as Lynx Beat Sun 86-80
Kayla McBride scored 23 points as Reeve reached 380 regular-season wins, one more than Mike Thibault.
On Wednesday, July 8, Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve recorded her 380th regular-season win, surpassing Mike Thibault to set the all-time WNBA coaching record in an 86-80 victory over the Connecticut Sun.
Hired by the Lynx in 2010, Reeve has guided the organization to four WNBA titles and won four WNBA Coach of the Year awards during her 17 seasons with the franchise.
Lynx guard Kayla McBride scored a game-high 23 points to lead the team to victory, helping Minnesota rebound after dropping two consecutive games earlier this week.
"I am so glad this is over," said Reeve, who was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame on June 27. She added, "Somebody's going to pass me and I'll be happy for them, too."
The Lynx will begin a four-game homestand Saturday against New York while holding a half-game lead over defending champion Las Vegas atop the WNBA standings.
