Olympian Chemmy Alcott Suffers Collapsed Lung After Failed Front Flip Into Lake
The BBC Sport presenter was hospitalized and given a chest drain after a badly timed five-metre platform stunt.
On Thursday, BBC Sport presenter Chemmy Alcott, 44, suffered a collapsed lung after a failed front flip from a five-metre platform into Lake Annecy in the French Alps.
Blunt trauma caused the injury when her chest hit the water at around 20mph, ruling out cold water shock since Lake Annecy temperatures reach a balmy 25C to 27C in summer.
Alcott shared a video on Instagram, joking that the situation "escalated quickly" and describing the event as "One badly timed front flip." She later posted hospital images with tubes and wires.
She initially attempted to jump again from embarrassment to avoid making a "big deal" of it, but soon realized she "couldn't breathe properly" and required a chest drain at hospital.
The former British Olympic skier now hosts Ski Sunday and recently covered the Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina, having competed in four Winter Olympics before retiring in 2014.
