Venezuela Unites to Recover 31 Tons of Gold Trapped in the UK; Interim Government and Opposition Agree on First Joint Response; Funds to Be Used for Earthquake Recovery
With US mediation, after nearly two weeks of negotiations, the Venezuelan government and main opposition agreed to advance a key demand to retrieve approximately 31 tons of gold reserves, worth $4 billion, from the Bank of England.
Both sides have also agreed to seek to recover the country's frozen gold reserves in England.
Following the completion of the first cycle of post-earthquake dialogue, delegations established a road map to renew Supreme Court judges and manage the repatriation of gold at the Bank of England to address the emergency.
