Charlie Kirk's Accused Assassin's Lawyers Question Link Between Bullet From Autopsy and Rifle Found Near Scene
Defense lawyers say federal bullet tests were inconclusive and that they need months to review 600,000 files before the hearing.
- Defense attorneys for Tyler Robinson filed a motion Friday alleging the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was unable to identify the bullet recovered at autopsy to the rifle prosecutors say Robinson used to kill conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
- The ATF conducted a tool mark analysis on the bullet jacket fragment recovered from Kirk's autopsy, finding the result "inconclusive" because the fragment was too fragmented to compare with the German bolt-action Mauser Model 98.30-06 caliber rifle recovered near the shooting site.
- Facing 61,500 pages of documents and over 700 hours of video spread across 5,000-plus clips, Robinson's legal team argued it will take at least 60 days to make a first pass through evidence, requesting a six-month delay for the preliminary hearing.
- Prosecutors maintain their case remains strong, citing DNA consistent with Robinson on the rifle trigger and cartridges, an alleged text message where Robinson told his romantic partner he "had enough of his hatred" for Kirk, and witness testimony from family members.
- Robinson is due back in 4th District Court in Provo, Utah on April 17 for a hearing on a defense motion to ban cameras from the courtroom, while the Federal Bureau of Investigation conducts additional ballistic tests with results still pending.

Prosecutors reveal what analysis of Charlie Kirk bullet and Tyler Robinson’s gun really found
The bullet that killed Charlie Kirk was so damaged that investigators could not confirm that it was fired from Tyler Robinson's gun — but that also doesn't mean it came from a different rifle, prosecutors said Tuesday.
