John Torode Will No Longer Headline Seaham Food Festival Following MasterChef Sacking
GREATER LONDON, ENGLAND, JUL 17 – Co-presenters John Torode and Gregg Wallace were dismissed after a law firm's report substantiated 45 misconduct allegations against Wallace and confirmed a racism claim against Torode.
- John Torode, the former MasterChef host, will no longer be featured as the main attraction at this year’s Seaham Food Festival scheduled for August 2 and 3, following the non-renewal of his contract.
- The decision followed an independent investigation by Lewis Silkin that substantiated an allegation of Torode using highly offensive racist language in 2018.
- Torode has rejected the allegation, stating he does not remember the event in question and has not been contacted by either the BBC or Banijay, the producer of MasterChef.
- Banijay and the BBC confirmed the contract will not be renewed and emphasized zero tolerance for racist language, with Banijay notifying action must be taken.
- Torode announced he will take time out to focus on other projects and expressed gratitude for his long tenure on MasterChef, which he joined in 2005.
