In Iran, people chanted anti-government slogans at memorial services for victims of the brutally suppressed protests. In Abadan, in the west of the country, a crowd held up flowers and photos while shouting "Death to Khamenei" and "Long live the Shah," as seen in videos circulating online. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is the supreme leader of Iran. The Shah was overthrown in 1979 by the so-called Islamic Revolution.
