Japan Shogi Association’s Queen’s Gambit for the future of female pro players

Shimizu Ichiyo (56), a female 7-dan player, has been appointed president of the Japan Shogi Association, succeeding Yoshiharu Habu (54), who served as president for two years. This is the first time a woman has been appointed head of the association, which has a history of over 100 years. "My future themes are 'succession' and 'challenge,' and I am grateful that they chose me," she said.
