NASA Captures Nine New Images of ‘Cosmic Razzle-Dazzle’
UNITED STATES, JUL 23 – NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory released nine composite images highlighting star formation, black hole activity, and galactic mergers using data from multiple telescopes over 25 years.
- On Wednesday , NASA unveiled nine composite images combining Chandra's X-ray data with infrared, optical and radio observations, highlighting N79, M83, NGC 1068 and Westerlund 1.
- Drawing on its X-ray insights, Chandra detects stellar winds, supernova remnants and black hole activity, and its X-ray data reveals hot gas from young stars billions of years ago.
- The N79 nebula spans roughly 1,630 light-years and was assembled from Chandra X-ray and JWST infrared data, while Chandra also detects supernova bubbles of multimillion-degree gas stretching millions of light-years.
- Using the composite data, astronomers delved deeper into galactic factories where stars form vigorously, and combined X-ray, JWST and Hubble observations reveal thousands of stars emitting X-rays.
- Now more than 25 years in orbit, Chandra X-ray Observatory underscores its legacy with a full collection of new images available online that help map cosmic structures in remarkable detail.
