A team of archaeologists discovered intact tombs more than 600 years old with the remains of about 38 individuals buried in the archeological complex of Chan Chan, the largest mud city in pre-Hispanic America, which was the capital of the pre-Incaic kingdom of the Chimu.
The collective tomb was discovered a few weeks ago in Chan Chan, the mud citadel next to Trujillo, about 500 km north of Lima. "We found the remains of 38 individuals who were buried on a funeral platform," said archaeologist Jorge Meneses at a press conference at the site of the discovery.
