Labour MP says she will trigger leadership contest by Monday if cabinet does not launch challenge
West said cabinet ministers must challenge Keir Starmer by Monday or face a leadership contest as Labour reels from local election losses.
Labour MP Catherine West told cabinet ministers to challenge Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer by Monday, threatening to trigger a leadership contest herself if they fail to act.
This ultimatum follows heavy local election losses where Labour defended only 47 per cent of seats while Conservatives retained 63 per cent, according to Press Association analysis.
More than 30 Labour MPs have publicly urged Starmer to quit or outline a transition plan, with critics arguing the party needs a leader with "clear vision" and "conviction."
Rejecting calls to resign, Starmer vowed not to "walk away," warning that stepping down would "plunge the country into chaos" while preparing a major reset speech for Monday.
The Prime Minister will deliver a major speech on Monday and the King's Speech on Wednesday to reset his premiership, attempting to stabilize his government amid internal turmoil.
