B.C. anti-gang unit says 11 arrested in illegal gambling investigation

Officers arrested 11 people and seized more than $34,000, a shotgun with a suppressor and gambling gear, police said.

  • Police in British Columbia arrested 11 people on April 29 in connection with an alleged illegal gambling house in Maple Ridge, executing search warrants across Maple Ridge, Coquitlam, and Surrey.
  • The Joint Illegal Gaming Investigation Team, part of the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit, began investigating the suspected gaming house in November 2025. Coordinated raids followed months of probe work.
  • Investigators seized more than $34,000 in cash, a shotgun with a suppressor, and gambling equipment during the raids. Police also impounded three vehicles: a 2012 Dodge Caravan, a 2017 Range Rover, and a 2024 Honda CRV.
  • All 11 individuals arrested were released pending charge assessments by Crown prosecutors. Six suspects received provincial casino bans effective April 30.
  • Sgt. Sarbjit K. Sangha, CFSEU-BC Media Relations Officer, warned illegal gaming houses are 'often tied to organized crime' and serve as hubs for 'violence, exploitation, and other criminal activity.' Investigation remains ongoing with charges anticipated.
