Tiger Quarterback Sam Leavitt Shares His Story of Recovery at LSU
Amid high expectations for LSU's 2026 season, an SEC defensive coordinator questioned QB Sam Leavitt's talent, citing injury history and passing inconsistencies.
On Monday, LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt confirmed full recovery from his 2025 Lisfranc injury, telling reporters, "I'm 100% right now." Leavitt took first-team practice snaps, signaling readiness for the 2026 season.
Leavitt suffered a season-ending Lisfranc injury in October 2025 while at Arizona State, requiring two surgeries and months of rehabilitation. He credited LSU athletic trainer Dalis Boyette for structuring his recovery plan.
LSU head coach Lane Kiffin admitted it was "unrealistic at first to expect Leavitt to look good" while recovering. Kiffin now praises his quarterback, noting Leavitt has enjoyed "a great week" of practice recently.
Despite the optimism, one anonymous SEC coordinator told ESPN, "He's not the talent level that a normal LSU quarterback would be." The coordinator acknowledged Leavitt is "dangerous at times" when extending plays.
Expectations remain sky-high for the Tigers' 2026 debut under Kiffin, with LSU facing Clemson in week one before traveling to Ole Miss in week three. Leavitt must prove durability through the demanding schedule.
