Mystery Illness Sickens Dozens Aboard Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship
ONBOARD THE ROYAL CARIBBEAN CRUISE SHIP NAVIGATOR OF THE SEAS, JUL 18 – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is investigating an outbreak that sickened 3.4% of passengers and 0.6% of crew during a week-long cruise on Navigator of the Seas.
- On July 11, the CDC reported the outbreak, noting over 140 fell ill during the Navigator of the Seas seven-night cruise from Los Angeles to Mexico.
- On July 16, 2025, the CDC said this marks the 18th cruise ship outbreak this year, noting the cause remains unidentified and only one other Royal Caribbean incident occurred in February.
- Data show 134 of 3,914 guests reported symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal cramps, CDC said, adding crew boosted sanitation measures and isolated the unwell.
