CBSE Says OnMark Portal ‘Vulnerabilities’ Contained Amid Security Concerns
An expert team from government arms and the IITs has been deployed as CBSE says it is ruling out other exploitable weaknesses.
- On Sunday, The Central Board of Secondary Education acknowledged cybersecurity vulnerabilities in its OnMark portal, stating that identified "vulnerabilities" have been contained and efforts are under way to rule out any other "exploitable weaknesses."
- Two days after claiming the system was "backed by a secure and robust IT platform," the board deployed cybersecurity professionals from the government and IITs to fortify the OnMark system, moving it to a more secure setup.
- Congress leader Jairam Ramesh claimed on Sunday that answer sheets of around 20 lakh Class 12 students were exposed in a "data breach of monumental proportions," noting that leaked booklets "show signs of paper folding and shadows."
- Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan acknowledged discrepancies in the OSM system and accepted responsibility, promising strict action against anyone found to be "intentionally responsible" for irregularities in the evaluation process.
- Rahul Gandhi criticized the response to students who raised concerns, alleging they were labeled "Pakistanis" and "deep state agents" instead of receiving legitimate engagement regarding the marking system's integrity.
