CBS Bosses Reportedly Ready to Push Aside ’60 Minutes’ Bari Weiss
On Monday, Puck News reported that Paramount executives are discussing whether CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss should cede day-to-day control of flagship programs including 60 Minutes, CBS Mornings, and CBS Evening News.
Paramount CEO David Ellison appointed Weiss to lead the network in October 2025 following a $150 million acquisition of The Free Press, but her tenure has faced 'humiliating headlines' and stalled ratings.
Anderson Cooper concluded his tenure at 60 Minutes this past Sunday, using his final appearance to 'subtly critique the show's direction' under Ellison and Weiss's leadership.
Should Paramount complete its proposed acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, the potential mandate change could extend to Weiss's responsibilities regarding CNN, though Paramount insists she 'has the full support' of David Ellison.
Sources indicate no final decisions have been made, though the proposed shift would likely have Weiss focus on the news division's digital growth while maintaining broad editorial influence.
