CBI files FIR, searches sites linked to Bhagwant Mann campers; ED summons CM's bro-in-law
The agency booked six people after the High Court ordered a probe into alleged cash-for-posting, tender and policy irregularities in the chief minister’s office.
- On Monday, the Punjab and Haryana High Court directed the Central Bureau of Investigation to probe corruption allegations against aides of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, ordering a status report within two months.
- The Enforcement Directorate previously sought criminal cases against Mann's OSD Rajbir Singh Ghuman and associates Nitin Gohal and Bir Devinder, citing alleged "attempts to influence postings" and "interfere in administrative approvals and other official processes."
- Advocate Nikhil Saraf filed a public interest litigation after the Punjab Police allegedly failed to act on ED complaints, arguing the probe required independence from state agencies given involvement of the Chief Minister's office.
- The court mandated that the Central Bureau of Investigation submit findings within two months, establishing an investigation independent of state-level agencies potentially influenced by the Chief Minister's office.
- Last month, Mann dismissed the Enforcement Directorate's allegations as the BJP's political interference, stating he did not need a certificate of honesty "from people who looted" the state.
