The Court of Cassation has rejected the appeal filed by lawyer Hans Rieder and his ex-wife. They were previously convicted of domicile fraud. Rieder allegedly evaded taxes by remaining registered in Switzerland while actually residing in Belgium. The General Prosecutor's Office—the highest division of the Public Prosecution Service—had previously argued that there were no grounds to overturn that conviction.
On Wednesday morning, the Court of Cassation considered the appeal brought by the mayor of Roubaix against his conviction in the case of fraud against the tax deduction introduced by his former deputy Max-André Pick. If the rejection of most of his arguments by the rapporteur magistrate and the Advocate General is confirmed, he will be made ineligible on 26 November.
